Join Mary GrandPre’, Illustrator of the Harry Potter Series---and so much more--as she discusses her work and studio practice as an artist. She’ll show and talk about original works from children’s books as well as her creative process work leading to the development of finished pieces---and her interests, ideas and considerations along the way. An informal afternoon studio talk with an artist whose work spans children’s books, magazines, advertising and animated film.

Celebrate picture books and learn through drawing. Each family member will illustrate and make their own picture book. Guest illustrator Margit Redlawsk will also draw illustrations for storybooks as they are read aloud. We’ll celebrate our own picture book creations with party refreshments.

The SouthShore Community Justice Center (SCJC) promotes mediation as a way to settle disputes. The SCJC is hosting the Poster Event to encourage all ages to use creativity and collaboration in resolving conflicts at home, school and work.

VSA arts of Florida hosts BIGDRAW- After School at Wimauma Acadamy RCMA. The six week artist residency will provide an after school arts program with a range of media and experiences for elementary school children.

VSA arts of Florida is a state affiliate of VSA arts, an international non profit organization dedicated to artistic excellence and to providing educational opportunities through the arts for children, youth and adults with disabilities--and encourages literacy and learning through the arts. vsafl.org

Sure, you can talk the talk… but can you CHALK the WALK? Absolutely! Join local artist Cory Wright to learn about the time honored tradition of Italian Street Painting- with chalk as the medium and the pavement as the canvas. Cory will explain various techniques for working with pastels and provide valuable tips, as well as give a short presentation of Street Painting examples. Then as individuals or small groups you will have the opportunity to create your own sidewalk masterpiece! We’ll spend most of our time outside on our hands and knees so bring a hat and plenty of sunscreen! Also, you are highly encouraged to bring a picture of the image you wish to enlarge and recreate on the pavement, either a masterpiece reproduction or original artwork. Each participant will have a large taped off area to create in!
