Welcome to the BIG DRAW-Ruskin Schedule

The BIG DRAW-Ruskin is a season of sponsored drawing and arts events in Ruskin, Florida and around the Southshore and Tampa Bay Area. The BD-R is linked to the International Campaign for Drawing and invites & supports BIGDRAW events, workshops, classes (and a major community public art project) during the month of October; all open to the public and free (a few events require a nominal materials fee — which is noted in the description).

This blog is your source for the latest information on BIG DRAW-Ruskin and area BIGDRAW events. You can use the Labels list to the right to find an event by date, host, age (we feature events for adults, teens, kids, and all-ages), location, etc.

New events are posted regularly. New listings invited!

NOW HERE'S THE TRICK: Postings are not in chronological order. To view events during a seven day period in October, select the week from the Labels column on the right.

Calendar is here. Downloadable schedule here.

Reservations for BIGDRAW STUDIO workshops or mini-classes are made in person or by phone at Ruskin Branch Library during library hours. 813.273.3652; T, W, TH, 10-7; F, S, 10-6; Closed Sunday & Monday

Jump into a hands-on introductory workshop in three parts that is focused on integrating drawing, painting, printmaking and photographic processes-- with digital media using Adobe PhotoShop/Elements. We will begin with a basic introduction to PhotoShop as a medium as well as a tool—and ultimate collage' machine-- and move to explore a broad range of digital processes and exploratory approaches to creating montage compositions.

Participants will create montage piece/s based on individual direction and choice of imagery. These may become finished works--or studies and source material to pursue in other media. Bring sketchbook to start--and a drawing element, if you have it. We'll be gathering source material along the way.
